Shady spot

Emu, near Broken Hill

We saw plenty of Emus driving around South-western New South Wales but this one had the best real estate!

Even though there was no water in the creek it was lovely and shady under the big red gums. The river sand was gorgeous too.

  1. Great photo - I am always intrigued how even the little birds find patches of shade to rest in.

  2. The emu is a neat bird, great sighting. Are they on a farm? Great shot!

    1. They are in the wild. There are lots of them in the semi-arid areas, I often see them near remnant Casuarina woodland.

  3. These are strange and splendid birds - I could not believe how large they where when I first saw them. We saw a few today.

  4. Emus are cool birds. There was a big boom and bust for Emu and Ostrich farmers here in the US. I still like seeing them around, especially close up as they sometimes approach people. I wrote a post a couple of years ago when a couple of Emu in a large field approached me almost too close.
